Key Note speakers :
Dr. Kevin R. Grazier
Investigation Scientist & Science Planning Engineer, Cassini/Huygens
Mission to Saturn & Titan
NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL)
The Cassini spacecraft has been in Saturn orbit for
nearly five years, and has been completely rewriting the book about the
ringed planet. Dr.
Kevin Grazier--Investigation Scientist and Science Planning Engineer
on Cassini--provides an overview of the technical hurdles involved in
delivering a spacecraft to Saturn, examines recent science results, and
discusses plans for Cassini’s future.
Dr. Kevin Grazier holds the duel titles of Investigation Scientist
and Science Planning Engineer for the Cassini/Huygens Mission to
Saturn and Titan at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in Pasadena,
CA. He earned B.S. degrees in computer science and geology from
Purdue University, and a B.S. in physics from Oakland University. He
earned his M.S. in physics from Purdue, and then went to UCLA for his
doctoral research in planetary physics, performing long-term large-scale
computer simulations of early Solar System evolution. While in
graduate school, he worked at the RAND Corporation, processing Viking
imagery in support of the Mars Observer Mission. At JPL he has
written mission planning and analysis software that won numerous JPL-
and NASA-wide awards. Dr. Grazier still continues research involving
computer simulations of Solar System dynamics, evolution, and chaos.
Beth Wozniak
President of Sensing and Control
Honeywell Automation and Control Solutions
In the 1980’s, computers were mostly standalone devices constrained
by the limitations of their isolated processors. In the 1990’s,
the internet evolved to interconnect millions of computers across the
globe creating an enormously powerful network for communication and collaboration,
enabling human interaction on a scale never before achieved. But the
cyber world still remained isolated from the physical world. We are now
on the verge of giving "senses" to the cyber world. Sensor
networks will become a pervasive resource, enhancing safety, security,
productivity, and energy efficiency. Across a range of applications,
sensors will give eyes and ears to our networked computer brains, revealing
previously unobservable phenomena and enabling solutions to previously
intractable problems. This keynote describes technologies and applications
of sensor networks today, and how they’ll lead us to a world of
pervasive sensing tomorrow.
